Pay It Forward

When an Iraqi war veteran returned home to Palm Beach County from battle, his injuries presented a whole new challenge for the Purple Heart hero. Sgt. 1st Class Steven Holloway was struck by a sniper's bullet while trying to assist a fellow soldier who was seriously injured in combat. After several surgeries that stabilized him, he eventually learned he'd be a paraplegic for the rest of his life. Upon returning home to his wife and 3 children with a 4th on the way, Holloway reclaimed his hobbies and passions and even continued his education with hopes of completing his degree in legal studies. Really, the only thing holding him back was his cramped Royal Palm Beach townhome that wouldn't allow him to maneuver his wheelchair. But help was on the way.

On Saturday August 21st, SFC Holloway, wife Laurie and their 4 beautiful children, were given the keys to a newly built, handicapped-accessible 4 bedroom home in Wellington's Pinetree neighborhood, thanks to the nonprofit organization "Homes For Our Troops" and over 20 local companies, including Regal Paint Centers. The donations consisting of everything from roofing materials, concrete and along with time, talent and supplies helped to provide not only a home, but a new beginning for this very worthy veteran and his family. John Moecher of JM Painting painted the entire house for the Holloways. Regal Paint Centers appreciates the opportunity to partner with other local businesses, such as JM Painting, in community service efforts like this. Regal Paint Center owner Steve Rasmussen says his contribution was just a small part of a very big beautiful picture. "It's our goal and responsibility to 'pay it forward' to all of those brave servicemen and women who fight for our safety and freedoms every day. With something as simple as paint, we were able to contribute to this major blessing for the Holloway family."

Since 2004, "Homes For Our Troops" has completed 37 homes and has over 30 more under construction. To learn more visit
